Oh, wow. I'd like to already predict that this is going to become a talking point in the EU.

"Nicknames: Temu Obama" (and others)

"Heroes: Anyone who identifies as a radical leftist. Transnational gangs, illegal immigrants"

You want your allies and partners to be honorable and reliable. Allowing this content to remain on a presumably reputable government website long enough for people to talk about it, leaves a rather sour impression. *.gov was supposed to represent all of the American people.

And that "trumprx.gov" advertisement on the top just ticks off my fraud detector. But, apparently, it is a legit government project.

  • rawgabbit 12 hours ago

Both "trumprx.gov" and “Trumpcard.gov” said they were created by the National Design Studio which points to https://americabydesign.gov.

    Cringeworthy Quote:

The same way a hotelier anticipates the needs of their guests. This is the hospitality design for our nation. This is President Trump going bigger than President Nixon.
  • mcphage 12 hours ago

Just because it’s a legit government project, doesn’t mean it isn’t also fraud. Given the current administration, I’d assume it was both until proven otherwise.

dpbriggs 13 hours ago

It's highly irregular to have a .gov domain with this sort of content.

  • vouwfietsman 13 hours ago

    https://www.whitehouse.gov/about-the-white-house/the-white-h...

Scroll down to the "major events timeline", its only irregular for now...

    • valiant55 12 hours ago

I didn't see an issue until I got to 1998, what the fuck is wrong with us? We shouldn't have allowed this to happen.

      • mingus88 12 hours ago

American cultural decline can be plotted directly against the rise of 24hr news, reality TV, social media.

Is it any surprise that in 2025, our politics looks this way?

This is what people want. It’s what they understand. It’s sad to think of how many young people know of no other reality.

        • vouwfietsman 8 hours ago

          > This is what people want

I'm not sure that's fair. Its like saying gamblers 'want' to gamble, or addicts 'want' to do drugs. Its deeper, more evil, and includes less autonomy than 'wanting' implies.

The only question is now, what comes next. When those kids grow up the current state of affairs might well become the good old times they remember.

        • UncleMeat 6 hours ago

This isn't our politics in general. We do not see absolute glee at being mean and cruel from people with power on the left. Biden spent four years actively refusing to be vindictive towards Trump.

This is specifically Trump activating the politics of hatred on the right.

  • Spooky23 12 hours ago

It’s actually illegal, but we don’t have laws anymore.

    • cameldrv 7 hours ago

Yeah remember when Al Gore got in a lot of trouble for using his office phone to make campaign solicitation calls?

rglover 13 hours ago

We are a deeply unserious people who deserve every drop of destruction headed our way.

  • slater 12 hours ago

A majority of the electorate think this is just fine and dandy. Deplorable, indeed.

    • PorterBHall 11 hours ago

True that a majority of the electorate voted for and should have expected this, but Presidential approval rating is in the cellar.

  • mcphage 12 hours ago

I feel bad for the people involved in doing this. It’s just… sad.

    • UncleMeat 5 hours ago

I feel bad for their victims. Cruel children spending their lives hurting people is sad, but there is no way to be engaging in this sort of thing without a clear blackness in your heart. These aren't victims or fools who've been duped. These are people who signed up to go to work every day and think "how can I hurt as many people I hate as possible."

Sometimes you get shit like this. Other times you get ICE agents ripping people out of car windows and leaving their toddlers in the backseat. Still other times you get the government moving heaven and fucking earth to deport a man who everybody agrees was only slated for deportation by accident.

      • mcphage 6 minutes ago

I agree, but it’s a different kind of feeling bad. For them, it’s more “what stupid, terrible decisions have you made that led you to this fallen state?”

The proof we are in a simulation, is when the White House becomes the troll account...

elmerfud 13 hours ago

The man does know how to troll people, and this is sure to make people freak out. The real question is what is this trolling designed to distract from?

  • rachr 13 hours ago

    gestures broadly

  • UncleMeat 6 hours ago

I do not believe that it is designed to distract from anything.

Trump, the leaders within his administration, and the staffers manning the switches all hate the left and simply want the left to experience pain. No other explanation is needed. Some little fascist spending an afternoon doing something to hurt people they hate is what they wake up in the morning to do.

I remember when wearing tan pants was controversial and supposedly unpresidential. This is beyond bizarro world. In the Bible there were hypocritical "leaders" called the Pharisees. Seems there a modern day party of them.

dom96 13 hours ago

It seems to be an attempt to push blame on the Democrats for the shutdown... in the most childish way possible.

zassyy 11 hours ago

Very inappropriate for a government website but amusing nonetheless. Makes me glad I'm not American. You guys are having some serious governance issues.

morcus 13 hours ago

Sadly, the level of discourse finds lower lows to reach every day.

(but also, is this relevant for HN?)

  • cpursley 12 hours ago

    Yes, tech related

Bartkusa 13 hours ago

Almost certainly a Hatch Act violation.

  • delichon 8 hours ago

You could convict the minions who made the page, but the President and VP are exempt from the Hatch Act's employee restrictions. Seems backwards.

    • halJordan 6 hours ago

At best you could make them admit guilt when they accept a pardon

khaki54 12 hours ago

Can't even blame gen z staffer for this. What's the youngest you could reasonably be to get this one? 35? Also not having Tom in top 8 is a big miss

somebehemoth 12 hours ago

Disgusting that this is flagged. How is an unusual White House web page not technology news? Whoever flagged this is a snow flake!

astro1138 10 hours ago

Hacked and defaced? Cyber security at a low point.

  • halJordan 6 hours ago

Have you not been paying attention? whitehouse.gov has been this way since the beginning of the term.

egamirorrim 11 hours ago

This is the trashiest thing I've ever seen

silexia 10 hours ago

For all the folks on the left who dislike this sort of thing: would you agree with trying to make sure that this cannot happen again? If that is the case, we need to work together to massively shrink the federal government. You can still have states that basically set up socialist policies, but if the federal government has enough power to set up socialist policies, it can also set up pseudo dictator policies, right?

  • halJordan 6 hours ago

What a writers non sequitor. This was already made illegal several times over.

FarMcKon 13 hours ago

Wow. This would be 'meh' if it was some weird individual. This is a 'whitehouse.gov' domain. This our our the Trump Administration folks. Acting like immature 13 year old, and making jokes no one under 40. And doing it using federal resources to do political party activities.

After decades of 'proprietary, respect, professionalism', this kind of childishness is just gross and embarrassing.

What the fuck

"it seems Republicans are willing to sign simple funding bills, while Democrats insist such bills be tied to ACA & Medicaid changes that they want. Democrats thus seem more directly responsible for shutdown." https://xcancel.com/robinhanson/status/1984707202439864334

Everything is Democrats fault, if they would just get out of the way, we could finally get the fully automated space communism that Trump is working with the AI companies to bring us.
